PMS RELATED DYSMORPHIA

Menstruation comes with many highs and lows. For many of us, we try so hard to get our periods back and then when we do we have to deal with all the symptoms. Even though it seems like its never-ending there is always a solution.

This post focuses on one of the more common symptoms that doesn't really even have a name. It's that feeling you get the week-ish before your period when you just don't even recognize yourself. Some have named it PMS-related dysmorphia.

What does it happen? Before we enter our menstrual phase our estrogen is already low and progesterone also take a big dip, this drags down our serotonin and dopamine with it. This makes us feel a little sad and a bit blah.

It doesn't help that we usually have annoying symptoms that go along with it (breakouts, bloating, pain, cravings).

How to help:

  • foods that increase serotonin: poultry, pumpkin seeds, salmon, eggs

  • increase dopamine: sleep, sweat, eat enough protein

  • eat your greens: helps with cravings and with detoxification

  • hydrate: duh

  • self-care it up
